Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
Sorry if this has been discussed. Just got my roadster last week (Ohio)...bought it from a dealer in Michigan and the cars owner lived in Michigan so it never was a southern car. Does this mean IF something happens to my window it isn't covered because it is a "northern" vehicle?? Again, sorry if I am rehashing something that was discussed before.
Hey Kmag from what I have read and gotten replies from people on here, it does have to be either from one of the 7-8 southern states or you have to live here. Not sure why exactly. All I know is it's about the glue in the back window but they replace the whole entire top. Reason I know this much is Ive got a 05 yellow roadster with just under 33,000 miles but the top and window seem to be fine so far!! I mean my cloth top beads water like a new one. It has been very well taken care of. I'm the 3rd owner and I bought it from my father-n-law who REALLY takes care of his vehicles but Chrysler has to run your VIN# even if you live down here just to see if you qualify.... I was told to go ahead and get mine replaced but I called a couple of local dealerships and they told me quote" it has to be tearing up or the glass has to falling out "??? Then we will fix it but Chrysler will reimburse you?? I'm a little skeptical of these people. Theyll try to rip you off every time you PAY them a visit so the exact answer I'm not sure of but if your car originally was from one of these states then I would definitely try and call to find out. And I'm not sure why the '05 models only either. Doesn't seem fair to the other xfire owners at all but I'm glad they're doing something for somebody. I did get a letter from Chrysler about 2 months ago regarding this problem but like I said, mine is in such good shape I kinda overlooked it. But good luck and if you find out anything else please post to let me know
Ok I'll give you a rundown of my experience. I 1st noticed my window separation 1000 miles past my 70K extended warranty expired - about 18 months ago. I took it back to the dealer, they took pictures and told me someone from Chrysler would be calling me. I received a call from my 'case worker' saying there was nothing they would do. I started researching tops and found the Gahh (gahh.com) top to have a lifetime rear window guarantee. I liked that. I went to a local trim shop and they said the Gahh would cost me $1800 installed. They had another source for the tops they use and their top would be $1700 installed. Gahh required you to send your existing top to their Ca shop so they can sew in the spreader and send it back. 2-week min with all the shipping to/from the east coast. I then decided that I didn't have the $1800 or the 2 weeks without a ride so I used the 3M gasket seal. That worked pretty good but the separation spread and I had to continue to patch the leaks. That 3M stuff is quite sticky and difficult to do a 'pretty' job. At last, the letter from Chrysler arrived saying I was covered for a top replacement. Since the 3M was hold out, I kept the letter extending the use of my old top as long as possible. Well this spring, more separation and with 88K miles, I decided to get my new top. Of course they had to order it. It took ~ 2weeks and I received a call last Thursday saying my top was in. I scheduled the appt. for Monday and asked about a car. They do not supply a car so I called Chrysler and the case worker approved a rental car for 2 days. I dropped off the call Monday and they said they needed a full day. with no call from the dealer, I called at 5pm and was on hold for 15 minutes before dropping off. I called again Tuesday morning and the service agent said they had nobody skilled to replace so they had to send it out to a detail shop. I was actually glad to hear they subbed this work out to a professional. I received a call at about 3pm Tuesday saying it was ready. When I picked it up, the service agent said the trim shop charged them $700 to install it and they had to get back with Chrysler to get that reimbursed. Not sure why he thought that was important because I didn't care if it cost $7000 - it was all covered for me. Anyway, since I knew the trim shop, I called them asking them if there was any special care needed. He said it will be tight until the fabric loosens up some but otherwise it should be good to go. I told him what Chryslers said about the bill and chuckled some. He said Chrysler has it listed as a 2 hour job but it is much more difficult than that and he should them 3 books - 2 stating 6 hours and 1 stating 7 hours. Anyways, the top looks really good. I got home last night and treated it with top cleaner/conditioner. It rained this morning and driving 70 mph down the interstate showed no signed of leaking. I am currently happy with the job.
persistance pays, after many turn downs i finally got some one to say yes and i now have a brand new top on my car! keep trying folks, patience paid off.
Quick update from my earlier post. Picked up my Crossfire from the dealer on Friday 4/27 with my brand new top. Looks fantastic. The dealership was real friendly and helpful throughout the entire process. My Chrysler case manager "Anne" stayed on top of my situation the whole time, talking with me and the dealership every few days until the problem was completely resolved. Having never owned a Chrysler product before this Crossfire, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with the level of 1st class service I received from every person involved.
Total cost to me = ZERO
Thank you Chrysler for standing behind your product and restoring my faith in the American auto industry.

I lodged a formal complaint with the BBB in Michigan...haven't answered it yet, but basically, Chrysler says they are right, still, and there is no recall. What kind of weight does a TSB carry, then?
Took my SRT-6 in to have photos taken today. They have the top on order. Thanks again to our strong and very vocal members! For the record, I am the sole owner, car was purchased in Daytona, Fl. it has 92k on it and still purrs like a lioness :-)
I received a letter from Chrysler Sept. 2011. They said this is an extended warranty 100,000 miles or 10 yrs. However, my dealership said the part is a recall number. He also said that when they replace the top it comes with a 12 month warranty.
It's taken a week for my top to come in and the dealership said they put one on for someone last week. It took to weeks to get the top for them.
Also Chrysler is not willing to provide a rental while going through this wonderful experience. If you have replaced the top out of pocket prior to Sept. 2011 they will reimburse you. But it will take up to 60 days as stated in the letter they are sending out.
Good luck to anyone having to deal with this problem. It's a real pain

My stealer said a rental was not available unter this extended warranty. I complains some and they handed me off to a national toll free number. I called them and they did provide authorization to my local dealer fro a rental. They won't give it unless you ask.
I ask for a rental but was told by Chrysler it was not a overnight job. I told them this should be a recall item and not an extended warranty issue. As a consumer if I had known they were having this issue with the back window I probably wouldn't have purchased their item. I also explained it was obvious other people had been experiencing this problem or they wouldn't be issuing an extended warranty.
They did have a form included with the letter to complete if you had the problem prior to receiving the letter. You could complete the form and send it to Chrysler to be compensated, but this could take up to 60 days. I did tell Chrysler I would hold them responsible for any out of pocket monies incurred due to this problem.
I will probably send a nice letter to Chrysler

I think it would be great if you posted the email for the CEO of Chrylser, but yes I would like to have it. There are 11 pages of post on this, so it must be a problem for many people.
Got the new top on Wednesday. Looks great. The dealership I used was very nice and so far everything is ok with the new top. I had to use the 3M to put the old window back in until I could get the top replaced, but my dealership didn't have a problem with that. They were very understanding. I think I'll bill Chrysler for the 3M and gun.

Hey jamesbuick69, I'm not sure if you have your top repaired yet or not. If not try Bob Williams Chrysler in Rome GA. I know it's a little bit of a drive from Ringgold, but they have replaced several tops in North GA. Call Bart 706-232-7793 ext.7110 or Lenny in the service dept. Mr. Williams is a really nice guy. Good luck!
Hiere is the e-mail address for Mr. Marchionne:

So I guess if The CEO From Chrysler says there is an extended Warranty on top than nobody should be paying anything not even a copay to get it replaced, does not matter the year of the XF!
Even mine (2006) out of Warranty now should be covered as well! In fact they are finally replacing mine, but have been asked to copay $500! Im not ok with that if there is an extended Warranty on it!

My letter to Mr. Marchionne did not help...I recently lodged a complaint against Chrysler with the BBB...they have initially sided with Chrysler, but I do have someone at the BBB, locally, working on it still...
Ok, I got it. Thanks for your help, I appreciate very much!
Hi everyone! I just purchashed a 2005 red convertible xfire about a month ago. Sure enough, the top has started to leak, and has completely seperated in both corners. I have contacted chrysler about it. They said my car is not one covered by the service bulliten. I live in Kentucky. I used some 3m sealant on it today, I doubt it will hold. I'm going to call chrysler again. How can one 2005 xfire with the window falling out be any different than others.
That's the question we should all be asking...It seems to me that Chrysler is very inconsistent in how they're deciding which tops to do...
My question: Did anyone else need a new moulding kit? My moulding was in good shape. Would one guess that they screwed it up while removing the top. If anyone else had to have the moulding replaced...please chime in and let me know how it worked out.
Unfortunately, I think they are learning as they go!
