Default full cooling upgrade

I have ordered Sl55 intake Needswings pulley 178mm and inmotion tune, but I have +40C temperature in our country in Summer so i need to cool down my IC system, I want to order and install Intercooler Reservoir, Johnson CM30 Intercooler Pump , and performance Heat Exchangerbut do not want to change my IC to a one from code3 that cost $ 1 299,00 kind of expensive, then code 3 do not suggest to install CM30 pump because of reason I do not understand what is he trying to mean by saying? “</SPAN>Most people upgrade there IC pump with a higher flowing Johnson pump when the OEM piece fails. Unfortunately, the stock IC can not handle the increased flow from the CM30, and thus backs up the inlet side of the IC, causing increased pressure and slower recovery cooling. Our new IC eliminates this bottleneck.” Tell me please what is the problem to use higher performance pump with stock IC

In my words Crap, the higher flow that a system has, the greater the heat rejection. Think of it as scrubbing the boundry layer more and thus no room for a film of insulating material ( water).

I keep fighting this issue. Woody

Slk32krazy i did now understand what code3 told about CM30 pump and problems that people have if do not buy another higher performance IC that is under SC. and i wanted you to re-word it to me. "Waldig" left me a message with explanation that i do not understand at all cause english is not my main language.

english aside do you understand now that the pump has not been proven to be the cause of the i/c leaks?
it has however been proven to be more reliable than the stock bosch pump

Oou now i think i ungerstand, so Code 3 say that if i install Cm30 pump and not upgrade IC to a bigger one that has been selling for 1299$ the stock ic will not able to handle increased flow and IC will LEAK. that is bull crap as you think.
So you say there is a point to install cm30 pump with a stock ic and everything will work more than normally and there will be a gain to my cooling system, is that what you mean?

what i and others on here think is that by adding a johnson cm30 to your system will not affect the i/c.
to reduce temps with the pump you will also need a larger h/e ie: the let or supercooler or custom made unit.
also isolating the i/c coolant from the engine coolant will have an effect on reducing temps in the i/c
i personally have the johnson cm30 on my car without any other mods and have seen no issues with the i/c. as funds allow i will upgrade the h/e and isolate the system. the reason i used the cm30 is that the stock pumps have a history of failure.
wally care to add anything?

Thank you very much now every thing is clear, yes I will install HE bigger size and cm30 I will be very pleased if you give me links what should I buy that you just called “isolating the i/c coolant from the engine “ I do not imagine how does it look like and where to buy. About history of bosh failure I know J I ordered c32 amg in 2005 and it ran only in morning then my car became to a turtle J and nobody knows what to do just one fu….ing service shop just make system to work with out IC directly from SC to cylinders J my car started to run no faster than bmw 540 that is 286HP as I was told later my engine could burst of plenty of hot air J. After I sold c32 Amg I bought SRT-6 with 19000m the same problem, anyway I could find a man who found me the problem and repaired my broken pump by his hands and his tool kit for 30$ now I send all c32 owners who has same problem to him J

search thru woodys threads. what he did was separate the coolant from the radiator and the i/c.
basically he ran the hoses from the i/c thru the new h/e and then thru the pump without going thru the radiaitor. new hoses, new h/e nand catch can needed. its not hard to do

what is a point to except the radiator from the system?

The point is that right now your car circulates the same fluid through the engine, through the radiator, through the IC and through the heat exchanger. That means that when you're engine gets hot, that hot fluid id going through your IC. Then the IC is not cooling the air, it is heating it.

So if you separate the two systems - keep the engine coolant in only the engine and the radiator - and keep the coolant that goes in the IC only in the heat exchanger - you will have a cooler IC and cooler air going into your supercharger.

You may want to look at NeedsWings SuperCooler. It's about $450 and gives a heat exchanger that is four times larger than stock. It also includes vavles to separate the engine coolant from the IC coolant.

I would also like to do a full cooling upgrade.
I have a johnson pump sitting in the garage, but am trying to figure out what heat exchanger I want to put in, also how I am going to seperate the two systems and add a seperate resivoir tank.

I would also like to lower the engine temp with a thermostat but refuse to spend $100 on a thermostat.

Crazy: are you sure you need a separate resevoir for the heat exchanger? The IC should never get so hot that it would need an overflow, unlike the engine. So if you separate them, you shouldn't need IC/HE overflow.

The NeedsWings supercooler is designed with that in mind. Tonight will be its first night at the track. I'm hoping that there isn't much turn out tonight so I can get some back-to-back runs and really test this new supercooler out.

from what i have found its more a saftey feature than anything. the s/c generates great amounts of heat and with a full pressurized system it may be possible to to leak some fluid. with a catch can its a non issue. if you watch woody's videos he installed a small can just for this purpose

Rasim- glad to see you ordered your mods. So you have a srt6? The nw intake and 178 is a great combination. You'll love the tune as well. As for your temps 40 cel is about 104 degrees. I'm in Arizona pretty much the hottest state in the united states. We already are at 40c and will be at 44c for the next 3 months. I don't have any cooling upgrades yet and do race in the summer and have not needed them yet. I don't drive my car hard when I'm not at the race track. Cooling upgrades will depend on your driving style and travels. As for the intercooler under the supercharger, don't recall anyone with a srt6 that has had one fail. AccuCrazy changed his with lots of issues, but not sure if it was just to upgrade cooling or if his was leaking? Remember the srt6 was made from all the left over parts of the slk32 and c32. It was the final years of production and most part failures, radiator(contamination), intercooler, pump were common on both cars by then. Maybe we got the upgraded parts on the srt6? The final version so to speak.

slk32krazy - what's the history of your car? Year, mileage, first owner? How many miles did your car have when your pump went out? There are only a few original owners of srt6's on here and I don't recall any of them have a pump failure. Most of us bought the left over new ones that sat for 2 years. The pump was fine but the plastic part inside was cracked. If a company just sold the plastic part, I don't think any would actually replace the entire pump. Mine was fine, but changed with a new bosch pump anyway in Sept 07. It's worked fine for 5000 miles so far. I do agree once the heat exchanger is upgraded that the extra flow from the johnson is beneficial. I question only that the johnson has only been used for 2 years max on the srts. Too early to tell if it's proven to have longevity over the bosch. Maybe 4 years after install and still kicking. Are the mustang and lightning guys changing to the johnson?

I dont want it neccesarily as a overflow, but more as added capacity tank that can have ice added to it.

I was thinking needswings, however if one can be bought from Summit for half the price with a little work to be used, I may go that route. I guess we will see how ambitious i get.

Right now the car is sitting idle for the next week or so while I claybar/polish the car, repair the foglights, change the brakes and plugs. The car is getting a full detail and Id like to get the cooling system out of the way.

heres a few specs on my car. 2002 slk32 amg. built 06 /02. im the 3rd owner. got the car with 36,000 and small change. upon an inspection at the vegas m/b dealer i/c was said to need replacement. flew out bought the car drove it home with no issues.
upon doing a full fluid swap i decided to swap the pump. futher inspection of the pump showed copper winding failure in 2 spots on the pump. the inside was completely covered in black soot.

i know have a little over 40k on the car with no i/c issues. a search thru mb world or benzworld will show most use the cm30 due to its longevity and superior flow. while this forum may be fairly new to the cm30 it is primarily a marine pump and well proven
if you search the c32 or r170 forums you will find many drivers swapping to the cm30. i cant speak for the stang or lightning guys. im sure most here are aware the slk32 and the srt6 are very similar with the exception of the body. frame driveline suspension brakes are all the same.
the major difference is i have the choice of a hardtop or a convertible!!

i have C32 amg right now that is 2002 and have 99k on it, it is in
Exhalent condition, I have had more than 12 cars owned and no one from them I drove more than 20 000 km so I do not need cm30 pump works longer than 1 next year all I need it to give better cooling to my IC, if you tell me that it does and my IC will not leak I definitely buy that cm30 pump.

no one can garuntee that you i/c wont leak. if you choose the cm30 with a larger h/e then you will have a drop in coolant temps.
i think the question you should ask is do you want a pump that is a proven quality product or a pump that you KNOW will fail. maybe in 30,000 miles maybe in 1,000 miles but it will fail.
my friend on benzworld steve1911 has a 2002 slk32 with only 11,000 miles and his pump has already failed
any mods you perform will have inherent risk. if you want a no risk answer buy a extended warrenty from m/b leave it stock and let them worry about the issues that arise. aside from that anything can happen to any car
thats just my .02
if you go to mbworld.org the c32 section has a wonderful group of guys who can give you more info than you can handle. hooleyboy leads the crowd with his c55 and his mods are out of this world!
