Default Starting

Is it normal for a Crossfire to want to crank a bit before starting. Mine usually takes 3-4 seconds between start of crank and fire. 70-80 degrees in garage usually.

I ask because my Buicks usually start on the first touch (almost "on the spark"). Turn key on, wait a beat for the fuel pump to prime if sitting overnight, than half a crank and off.

Have had a lot of cold natured cars but usually with carbs, not FI. Is this normal for a Crossfire or is there something I should be looking at ?

Not normal for mine.
Might be time to connect a fuel pressure gauge and see if you have bleed-down.
Should read @ 50-60 lbs when running, if it bleeds down to 0, then the pressure has to build up before the sucker will fire.
Bleed-down usually means a new filter, ( if there are no leaks ) it has the valve in it.
( test port is at right front of engine on the fuel rail, you could just shade tree it and press the schrader valve before you try to start and see if there is any pressure at all - I advise to not be looking into the valve when you press the little stub !! )

No, mine starts at once. You may have a leak back of the pressure from filter.

I agree with all responses, but there is one other thing, not sure, but if the Crank Position Sensor is becoming flaky (as happened on a Ford Crown Vic we had at work once) I could see it taking a few turns before the PTCM really knows where the crank is.

I'd look at fuel pressure as the other guys have suggested - and as a second item (only after you are sure your fuel pressure is good, and I bet it isn't) then change the CPS.

If the CPS does not help, you have not wasted much money, as CPSs go bad all the time -just keep the spare in the trunk for the fateful day when it goes south on you.
I've been carrying a spare CPS for two years now, just in case mine fails like so many other's have.

Thanks for the tips. Connected gauge and got spurt (last started two days ago.). Key on and went to 52 psi. Key off and did not budge in time to check the air filters (OK but will add replacements to list).

Replaceed everything beingcareful to alight TB throat carefully. All rubber felt good.

Key on, wait 2 seconds, crank. Felt lit three cyl went by then started. Probably more like a second but am used to just tapping the starter on Buicks.

Now have spare CPS, is this the right one for an '07 ? -Amazon said no but forum said yes).

Just a thought.. how old is your battery? I noticed my car taking a little extra time to fire up about a week before the battery gave it up. New battery and it was back to hit the key and fired off.

Nothing wrong with your fuel pressure.

That is the one.

Mine started quicker and easier too, when I replaced the ORIGINAL battery back in early 2011 - mine is an 05.

Remember than in older cars, the distributor could fire the plugs as soon as the engine started turning. Our cars can't do that, it takes at least two complete revolutions of the crankshaft (which gives you one complete revolution of the camshaft) before the PTCM can calculate where the pistons and valves are -and therefore, know when to fire the plugs.

There is no way around this.

So, we all sit twiddling our fingers while the PCM counts it's fingers and toes .....
NOTE: were you aware that this is a "self starting engine" ? All you have to do is turn the key to start, then release it.
The PCM takes over from there.

Mine doesn't - the manuals don't keep cranking - but the pulse module DOES turn off the starter (even if you hold the key) when the engine fires!

I kinda miss my auto-crank in the Red Roadster.

Its not COUNTING them, it's trying to figure out where the hell they are in relation to one another!

That could explain it. With the offset crank the 3800s in my Reattae are even fire and the injection is sequential, from the CPS it can guess pretty close and fires two cyl at once (lost spark design I first saw on a Honda 150 Dream). So it can just fire almost immediately. All I know is that when warm I can just tap the starter once and it fires.

The 3.2 OTOH is not an even fire engine (problem with 90 degree V6s) and it is using the same firing method as a Hemi with dual staggered sparks so maybe it needs a bit more to find itself.

Did just feel three compression strokes before it fired this morning (can't hear so I compensate by feel) so about one rev but can't just tap.

Constant flow injection in my Corvette was pretty much the same but the Delcotronic ignition was also very hot so would start instantly but then the cam and side pipes would make life interesting
