Yep, here's a photo of the hardwired setup. The only thing that's "hard wired" is the power cable. The detector itself is removable from both window and power.

I still don't like the fact that the detector has to be on the window, but I guess that's something that I have to live with for now.

I didn't buy the V1 for all the times I drive at the speed limit. I bought the V1 for those times that I have to go over the limit, for brief periods of time, like passing large trucks, unsafe drivers, entry onto the highway, etc. While those sound normal to most people, I found (the expensive way) that the Crossfire just attracts more attention than other cars.

btw - psuperti, aren't radar detectors illegal on military bases? I can't remember.

don't they make a license plate adapter for the V1, so it's not mounted on your dash?

I don't know about it being ilegal, but sSpeeding on base is out of the question no matter what rank you are. The MPs have the ability of informing the soldiers chain of command about wrong doings.

that's typically what i do when traveling the Ohio Turnpike. let the guy who wants to be in front flush 'em out.

Yes, I feel the same way about the thing just sitting there. Unfortunately, there are no remote antennas for the V1. There are definitely better detectors out there for the ultra stealthy setup.

I don't think police care about seeing a radar detector, unless you are driving in an area where radar detectors are illegal.

Start up a new post with your bel sti-r setup, I (and I'm sure many other people) would be interested in seeing different detector installs!

Cops are pretty used to seeing them. I had a cop pull up to me at a light and his was on constantly, so I was buzzing away. He looked over, started laughing and said "Well, we know it works".

I got the V1 and already love it! Wow the power wire is o phone cable! So I put it under the rear view mirror (because is has to be in the window, so why not?) The 8ft phone cable is going straight up to the roof, makes a left, down the pillar and it pops out behind the cd player where it gets power and ground. Pictures coming to my site soon.

Don't like the detector in the middle of the windshield for all to see. I keep mine way down low almost resting on the dashboard. You can get an officer in a bad mood to pull you over for windshield obstruction believe it or not. My son had small dice hanging from the mirror and he got a ticket. It's just not fair when they pull over who every they want for something like this, where being in a classic car club, we have big dice hanging and we never get pulled over for that.

wow, now what does it do when I leave my radar unit off until I see you speeding, which is what is required for me to stop you anyway...then my little thumb turns the instant on function on to record your speed??? when, we are really in the mood to catch someone at a particular speed, say 70+ in a 55...I won't use my radar until I see someone moving in what I think is 70 or above, then pull the trigger...and laugh as the front of the car dives into the pavement...now, that was kind of mean, so I will lighten up a little and tell you when you think your detector has saved you, actually the officer either isn't interested or is already busy with someone else...as for the fast guy out front, most people refer to them as "Bear Bait"

Well, I got hit with my first laser on Friday , up near the intersection of 494 and 94. I was just cruising along and driving at the limit with cruise control. The police car was parked up against a concrete riser on the side of the highway and shooting cars as they drove up on the highway.

The valentine picked up the laser about a quarter of a mile away, and just went straight into 5-bar alert mode. I ended up hitting the brakes anyway out of habit In the dark without overhead lighting, the police car was invisible. If I didn't know I was being hit and I ended up speeding _after_ he hit me with lidar, then he would probably have shot me again and pulled me over!

On another note, the local constable randomly blasted me with radar as we were both stopped at a 4-way intersection! I guess he must have been testing the radar or something. I gave him a smile and a wave as he drove by. I really like my local PD, they are good people (a few of them even live in my neighborhood).

While it may not have individual bogey counters, it does have a bogey counter and will indicate all radar sources. Why is this useful ? We have a couple of aspiring cops that believe their clever by sitting under digital radar signs. Most folks familiar with the area will pick up the radar sign from afar and think it's just the sign and keep going. With the V1 one can see that there's both a K and Ka band, so you know that it's not only the digital radar sign (K band), but also the long arm of the law (Ka band around here) waiting to extend their hand into your wallet.

I've had my V1 for about five years, and it's worth it's weight in gold. It's foolish to claim their a waste of money, anyone that's had one for any length of time can attest to their effectiveness.

No it won't save you 100% of the time. Instant on radar, and laser are particularly challenging, because unless it's targeted at someone in front of you (which is why it's a good idea to have a "test rabbit" ahead of you if possible) you're pretty much done for. I pick up radar around corners, and on an open freeway/highway I can pick up a fuzz from up to a mile away. The arrows are also very useful.

I'm starting to see a few of the CHP's using laser out here, so it's time to invest in a laser jammer...err I mean parking assist device

Minnesota and California have a law against ( Minnesota has laws against almost everything ) attaching anything to the windsheild. If I attach my GPS to the dash it covers the same area of the windsheild as it would using the suction cup on the glass. It just proves we need to be way more careful who we elect.

The law in Cali was just overturned - Now you can put a GPS (or radar i assume) in the bottom left 5" of your windshield, or the bottom right 7" on the passenger side. Still though, good point.

Oh, and the only time i've ever been ticketed when speeding is when I had a radar detector on.. it gave me too much confidence and I sped right into a ticket
