Have you ever accidently nudged the gear lever into "D-" or "D+"? If you're like me that meant you were forced to either shift manually for the rest of your current drive or (much more likely!) bring the car to a complete stop, shut it off & start it again; all simply to make your automatic, "automatic" again.
Thanks to reading the owner's manual, I'm happy to share with you a much better solution.
Press and HOLD the gear lever in "D+". The transmission will shift to gear "D".
If you accidently downshift you should also just be able to push the shifter to D+ and it should just shift back up, like a stick shift unless you are going to slow for the next gear.

It will shift back up, but once you have moved the gear lever into either "D-" or "D+" the transmission will remain in "MANUAL" mode until you either (1) restart the engine or, (2) HOLD the gear-lever in "D+" until you see the gear position indicator on the dashboard indicate you are in "D" again.

Mine goes right to D if you shift it up, no holding.
Mine also goes easily into 'D' after manually shifting (without holding it there). Also, FYI, the transmission WILL continue to upshift and downshift as you drive (while in manual mode) when it exceeds its programmed limits as a designed built-in safety. I do not remember where I read that, but it is in either the service manual or the owner's manual. This design proposes some might forget to put it back into 'D' mode, it is designed to 'protect itself'.

The next time my financial advisor says 'I can afford' combusting a bit of premium I'll give the trans a thorough test. I knew about the continued automatic shifting within a few hundred RPM of redline & to avoid lugging the engine, but "holding" it in "D+" was the only thing which worked 100% to force it back into normal automatic mode, for me anyway. Now that I know that works, I'm comfortable testing out "other" possibilities.
you can hold the shifter inthe + plus or you can tap it to the + side , example ,if u r going 40 miles per hour and u shift into the - you will only drop one gear tap the shifter(-) and it will drop another gear.. now it u want 2 go back in drive mode ((two waus to do that ) tap the shifter + 4 or 5 times or jusr hold it on the + side.. the only time u would have to stop to restart your car id if u went into limp mode then what u decribed is correct.
It turns out everyone is correct. Just shifting down a single gear then shifting back up will put you back in drive. Holding the lever in D+ will shift back into drive regardless of which gear you are in.
