Suspension travle is lost, so is body roll, and with a considerably stiffer spring, you don't need or want more travel. I am also unaware how it affects the aero of the car, but I am not an aero engineer and have had mine around 150 with no problems or stability issues...

To each their own, but I am glad you used the phrase 'eludes me' because if you spent a day or two at the track, road course, not drag, and you would understand why we have done what we have done
I am all for road courses, it's the 1/8 and 1/4 thing I don't comprehend, no need for great handling and a good way to blow a tranny or rear end. Usually dragsters have taller rear tires, that changes the cars attitude ie, aerodynamics. Less travel and stiffer suspension rseults in a bone jarring ride, something my 66 YO body doesn't tolerate like in the past, especially on Pa. roads. As far as me spending a day at the track, I have raced both cars and motorcycles at a fairly high level, many, many, many years ago. LOL. I actually sat in Phil Hills' Ferrari Formula One car at the Nurburgring in Germany.

I hand camaros and mustangs their asses all the time at the dragstrip with my SLK32 (SRT6). The AMG/SRT6 launches better, more consistently, and with more off-the-line torque. Drag Racing IS what these cars are good at. Along with many other things. I am enamored with the all-around performance.

Why did Corvetttes get drug into this? As an owner of an OLD Corvette, I can tell you that it is slower than the AMG/SRT6, definitely sits lower, is a blast to drive, and has a ton of "soul".

No argument with the older Vettes, I always wanted a 63 split window. A friend at my local speed shop has 2 but he's not selling. I hope the new C=7 restores a little luster.
To all, I guess I can see something in what you do, as has been said many times, "To each his own."

might as well spend some time on the drag strip where you can just point and shoot since you can't row your own gears around the corners

I can only imagine a power shift around a curve in my coupe. it would surly be interesting but I would not recomend it. As for lightning quick downshifts before the curve and short shifts coming out of the curve my paddle shifter ( thanks Chris padddle shifter, Rudy TCM) works just fine.

The short answer to the OP's drag race question is because it is FUN and the Crossfire does quite well even against todays latest offerings. Sure anyone can line up and do it (point and shoot) but to do it well requires real skill.
