I know that George, but I really, really doubt old Phil has one of those. If he did, he probably wouldn't have many questions as to what the wing is made of.

NOW, I'm going to stir the pot some because all you guys that have said the SRT wing is fiberglass I believe are WRONG. The SRT wing has a foam center that gives the wing it's shape. That shape is covered with some kind of gel coat, but that coating does NOT saturate any fiberglass. There is no "fiberglass" in the wing. The gel coat may be an epoxy resin which most of us are familiar with when using fiberglass, but there is no fiberglass in the SRT wing.

UrbanE just fixed his SRT6 wing, he is the man to ask.

On the N/A Coupe, the wing/spoiler top is not metal (magnet won't stick), bottom is metal. I believe on the N/A Roadster, the wing/spoiler is all metal.

Primer depends on the condition. Are you removing all the paint to the fiberglas IT IS FIBERGLAS AS i HAVE SHOWN, or are you scuff sanding to get a TOOTH on the original paint? I hope your not going to use a rattle can to paint the spoiler, I used auto URETHANE two part paint which reguires a clean spray booth like condition. In that case you need to select the primer to be compatible with the top coat.

Iam also assuming your doing a clear coat which requires getting all the paint products from the same supplier, they can be an assistant to your task. I painted the spoiler on mine to match the windshield color to tie it in, Black is not my favorite color so I decided to change it up. Enjoy the hot weekend, Woody

thank you very much for the detailed advice. i still dont know what i will find until i unbolt the spoiler.
what i noticed is that it was painted over a previous color that seems the original. perhaps their mistake was that they did not prepare the surface or lightly sanded it to make it slightly rough so the new coat could stick. so maybe even i dont need to remove the paint. will tell.

thanks again.

You could also have it wrapped in any color or shade it you want as a less costly option, a shop would cost 3-500 to really paint it properly. Woody

just found a thread on the issue here:
https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...t-problem.html
also, a mention at another place-not related-of a term that fits what chrysler is doing to us with the prices on the cross: 'extortionally expensive".
what about that?

began working on the spoiler.

perhaps others are not, hence the confusion, but this seems fiberglass.
couldnt swear for it, but just to be covered, the materials am getting are fiberglass compatible.
and am going to remove all the paint.
will report results.
thanks again.

applied paint stripper, but had a hard time removing the paint. learned that there were several layers of blue metallic paint. it wrinkled, as is supposed to do, and kept adding more and scrapping with a spatula. on some areas eventually exposed some sort of white material that looks like plastic (not metal for sure) but am unable to determine if is fiberglass. could be, or could be any of the zillions of plastics around. will need to fill-in some areas that are uneven. perhaps some epoxy and then sand even. got some materials to finish the job. will talk about them in detail at another post.

If it’s the speed deployed spoiler, it would be a LOT cheaper just to buy another one off of EBay. In the colour you need

if you’re repairing an SRT fixed wing go to this post

https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...ed-wing-2.html

SRT-6 roadster fixed wing. I’ve just repaired one

I had the same problem with mine and two body shops have repainted it in the past but couldn’t stop the paint lifting after a few weeks. I removed all the paint right back to bare metal, the top surface is aluminium and the frame underneath is steel which causes a reaction. The bubbles on my spoiler were caused by tiny holes in the aluminium caused by this reaction, I had the same problem with the doors of a Range Rover for the same reason. I don’t know what the solution is but I’m considering wrapping it, I’d be grateful if anyone could suggest a permanent solution. Thanks

My 04 like many is bubbling at the base edge of the wing. Clean white plastic below. All the used wings on ebay share the same issue that i have. I may see if i can just scrape and then paint the Lower flate face. The rest of the wing is presentable. A good winter project 😁
