Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
My '06 convertible top seperated a year ago. After going to the dealer, and being informed I'd have to pay to have the whole top replaced, I decided to fix it myself using the 3M window weld. Well, after a year, it has started seperating again. After reading the posts on the forum, I emailed their customer service who were absolutely no help at all. So, I directly emailed the CEO of Chrysler last Thursday and recieved a call from his assistant the next day letting me know they would cover the costs of the top and I would just have to pay a $200 co-pay. I went to my local dealership yesterday, had them contact corporate with my case number, and they ordered my top on the spot no questions asked. So, if you're having this issue with your roadster and it is a '06 or newer, just take the initiative, email their CEO, and you can have a brand new top while save yourself around $2600.
Thanks for the info. I'm fighting with chrysler on my 2007 top witch the window fell out of . With this I have more weapons to use against them. I will know today by 8 pm from a rep of chyrsler if they stand behind there products.I will post there reply so others can use this info too.

i went to auto zone got a tube of that black super weatherstrip adhesive carefully applied it. used some bath towels to support the window frim the inside adn used silver metal duct tape to hold the top down to the glass on the outside. left it overnight. the next morning i pulled the tape off, remived the towels, used an exacto knife to remove the excess glue from the glass and finally windex to get my fingerprints and smudges off the glass and it looks great. been holding up just fine. cost $6.50 for the glue. no time lost messing with anyone messing with my car.

Top ready going to go pick up later from work , the way I did it I had the dealer produce the bulletin and we read it together even through the vin number was no listed to be replaced or the states that they had problems so I called Chrysler and I stuck with that it was not a recall but a material defect , they finialy aggred and the rep gave me a case nubmer back to local dealer where they took pictures showing the separation between canvas and window chrysler called and approved the replacement. Hope this will help
Thank you all in letting me know about this hope the top looks good since they told me j ray we have never replaced a top before but wil do a good mom. Will see

I just picked up my '05 Crossfire with it's new top. I bought it used infrom Carmax in December 2010 with 14k miles on it and never had any warranty. My window began to separate a couple of months ago.
I called Chrysler customer service and explained my window problem. They asked for my VIN number mileage (34K miles) and gave me a case number. A case manager contacted me the next day and told that I was covered by the service bulletin and told me to take it to a dealership to verify problem. I received a phone call the next day stating that the warranty was approved and that the parts were ordered.
I received another call and was told that because my car was not originally sold in one of the approved states that I was not eligible for the warranty repair. However, they offered to replace the top if I paid a $250 deductible. I was a bit annoyed but I really couldn't refuse the offer. A new top on a seven year old car for $250.What a deal! I dropped my car off at the dealership on Wednesday and got it back on Thursday. It looks great. It only took 2 weeks and a few phone calls and I have a new top.
The moral of this story is thati it appears that Chrysler is more than willing to work with those of us with the window problem.

This is the dealer in the city of Clinton, SC where the car was first ever titled in the US according to Car Fax and the SCDMV in Clinton, SC.
Burt says that all of the Chrysler service records for this car are showing in SC only, never serviced out of state. Also said this could be a situation of PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) where a company like Michelin has a purchase program for it’s employees run through a central dealership (Golling), and once the car is "sold" it's shipped directly to the local dealership for PDI and given to the first true custom here in Clinton, SC.
The other option, the customer came in to Cooper Motor looking for a specific SRT6 the dealer found it sitting in the Business Stock Reduction center at Chrysler, had the vehicle sent to Cooper Motor and sold for the first time in SC.

Gilbert called me back; email was received at the proper email address on 6/21/2012 10:38
I was informed that there will be an inspection fee charged by the dealer to review and determine if this window separation falls under the X31 program, this fee is to be covered by me.
He also informed me that based on the dealer evaluation; they will then contact Gilbert with the dealer’s costs involved in the replacement of the defective part per the Z31 program. From that point Gilbert will decided of those costs what part I am responsible for as my “contribution” to the replacement.
He went on to explain that my vehicle would not be covered fully under the X31 because their records show that VIN being shipped to the Golling dealer in MI, but they are making a good will assistance offering to me because of the situation.
Gilbert confirmed on a recorded call, that in their database the vehicle was assigned to Golling on 2/28/2007 and returned to the Business Stock Reduction Chrysler center the same month.
However, Gilbert also refused to give me any addition information on dates and or reasons it was sent to the Stock Reduction Center, what it's disposition was at the Reduction Center or any transaction paper trail on the VIN after it was received at the reduction center, and subsequently transferred out to the Clinton SC. He did sate the only recorded sale of the vehicle that he could see in his database was directly to me in June of 2011. However I have documented proof that Cooper Motor, the Clinton, SC dealer is showing as the first selling dealer and that the vehicle was only ever titled in SC with the original title showing only 40 miles on the odometer by the SCDMV in Clinton SC.
Gilbert is understanding of my grounds for being covered by the X31, but has been told directly by management that, even though the vehicle was never purchased by a customer in MI, never titled by an customer OR dealer in any other state other than SC, and all his database service records at Chrysler indicate that the vehicle was only serviced in SC they are not willing to cover the vehicle under the X31 because of the first record of assignment for ONE day to a dealer in MI.

This indicates to me the following, and I base this on my years in business and the practice companies use to defer dead stock and keep it from showing as a re-occurring asset liability on their books.
1) This product / vehicle was manufactured in 2005 and placed on the Chrysler Corporate books
2) This product / vehicle then was on the books in inventory from 2005 thru February 28 2007
3) Then it was moved on paper from Chrysler Corporate inventory, to the Golling dealer in MI, and the same day transferred back to the Business Stock Reduction Center at Chrysler to offset Chrysler’s liability
4) These type deals are done in bulk, and if we get enough people here to confirm that Golling was the dealer of reference on their vehicle it will aid in all of us being able to get these factory defective tops replace without the financial burden being placed upon us just because Chrysler had to make their books appear better for the pending sale of the company on May 14, 2007.

Well just talked to Chrysler and was informed that in good faith it will be a 1,000 dollars out of pocket for me to get my top fixed. I informed them that it was unexceptable to charge me such a fee for a known safety defect. They would not put it in writing or send me anything stating what they offered. I printed all the complaints and noticed that more people have to file complaints. Everyone on this forum should be filing complaints with safercar.gov (NHTSA) and Chrysler because only in numbers will we be able to have changes made. And so that all years get covered.

Finally an answer back from Chrysler ......well sort of
i have to take my car to the dealer, who will then take it to an unknown shop for repair, and then they will tell me how much of the repair costs they will pay .
i told her I didn't want anybody at the dealership driving my car, so she is checking to see if i can take it to get the estimate.
I can have the window re-installed by an upholsterer here in Houston, with a lifetime guarantee on the window bond, for around $700, so we'll see what happens.
No new top for my 7900 mile garaged roadster, because it is "VIN specific" Asked her why it wasn't covered, as it HAD fallen out, and guess what .........I don't have that information, she says........

I have an appointment tomorrow morning to have my top replaced under warrenty. My car was originally sold in South Carolina. Two previous appointments were cancelled when the mechanic called in with the flu. When I asked how many tops the dealership has replaced they told me one. I asked how it worked out and the service manager said fine - no problems.
Wish me luck.
Wish me luck.
When I called this afternoon to see if my car would be ready today, they said that they had to order a rod but that it would be ready tomorrow morning.
