Engine Splash Shields replacement. PART 1 of 2 (10 picture restriction per post) February 10 - March 3, 2026. (working on other things as well).
Svengoolie says "Shield up!" I guess he thinks he's on Star Trek or something!
I noticed the belly pan or under engine cover was sagging in the middle. When I removed the cover I noticed that the left side clip was broken off of the splash shield and the right side clip was worn out.
I decided to replace them. It's not as easy as you would think and the best advice is to remove the bolts holding the front anti-sway bar up. These bolts require a 16mm socket and a 13mm socket and are located in the middle of the bar, just above the bushings. After they are removed the bar can be lowered and it will make it easier to replace the shields.
This is how I do the work on my own car. I'm not a professional mechanic. The pictures and descriptions are for reference only. Any work that you do on your car is your responsibility.

Hmmm....
I need to look at my belly pan as I have never noticed these slots in either my Limited Coupe or Limited Roadster
If they are there, I have never fitted the pan to them when re-installing it for the past 19 years
@M60A3Driver sent me this photo after my inquiry about these slots
Nothing to do with your current repair, as it is another excellent and detailed job.
My question is, where did you get the additional ground wire, that's attached to the battery cable terminal. And where did you attach the other end.
I only have the obvious main cable, and the one to the right in the picture.
Appreciate all of your knowledge, and sharing the details.

Here is a post by@James1549that shows how the additional ground cable can be installed

As most of us older ppl know, we are always learning something new!

The geometry between the splash shield and those mounting tabs never has lined up on my 2007 Coupe. So I never put much effort into getting these connected whenever I re-installed the splash shield.
It's a very nice & detailed write-up on getting the splash shield installed properly.

I got the cable off Amazon The other end is connected to a bolt on the transmission bell housing.
Here's the post I did: Secondary ground wire and ground strap
On the first page of my thread, under the 3 pictures are a list of links to all of the repairs I have done. I keep adding links as I make the repairs.
Thanks,
John
I have added the picture that Valk has pointed out to the post for clarification.
I have those slots in the belly pan and I do have these tabs although these tabs do not hold when connect into the slots.
Like I said, in my 19 years with Crossfires I never had a belly pan connected where those slots are.
The belly pan is secure with the 3 front screws and the 2 rear screws and doesn't sag at all in the middle.
I have those slots in the belly pan although there are no tabs to connect into the slots.
It doesn't appear anything is broken off either.

The belly pan is secure with the 3 front screws and the 2 rear screws and doesn't sag at all in the middle so I'm not concerned.
To this day, I believe the 08's were thrown together with leftover parts that completed cars. The reason I say this, my Launch CRP123 (second hand) and the Launch CRP-123E (new) doesn't read the SRS system no matter what MB cars I tried to read. OK, now for the point of the post, my bottom pan has the tabs on the splashguards and the slots on the pan. Oh, BTW John, when I first got the car and inspected the undercarriage, I removed the splashguard and when placing it back also put one of those 'trim' pins in the hole where it attaches with the front facia (if this was the hole you found missing a 'clip/pin'.
Have only had my 2005 Crossfire for 5 years so can't speak to before that ... my belly pan has the slots but not connected to anything ... 4 screws total, 2 front, 2 rear ... no sagging and have not had any problems
Ok everyone, I appreciate your comments.
However, it's not a matter of it causing any problems. I know owners who don't even use the belly pans on their cars.
I post these "How to's" because I'm making my car as close to the way it was when new as I can. I try to do everything the proper way. If you don't want the clips to go through and hold up your belly pans, by all means, it's your car and you do what you want with it. This is my car and I am going to put it together properly or as close as I can get to it.
Water pump, Thermostat, Coolant temperature sensor, Hose Replacement and Coolant flush. PART 1 of 7 (10 picture restriction per post) March 29 - April 6, 2026. (working on other things as well).
Svengoolie flushed like he ate too many burritos at Taco Bell!
I'm going to be doing a 1,000 mile trip out to the Crossfires in Athens event in Ohio at the end of May. Although the coolant tested fine with a hydrometer and the pump seemed okay, I have decided to upgrade the 20 year old cooling system.
I am replacing the water pump, thermostat, Coolant temperature sensor, upper and lower hoses and doing a coolant clean and flush.
Special thanks to Rob at Needswings.com for the fast shipping of my order!
