Sorry to hear (& see, for that matter) about your misfortune, Atom!! But, like many others have pointed out, her cell phone would not have been in any position to be used in the future had she hit me. AND, with her child in the back, ay caramba!
Glad you're in one piece but for sure stop by the doctors office for a once-over to CYA in case any body parts (your body parts, not the SRT's!) magically start acting up in a week or two.
Glad the wine & cheese made it OK but this is the perfect excuse to go & buy some Yukon Jack. It will help kill the grumpy mood you're in PLUS, if done correctly you won't remember a thing the next day.
Good luck, sir!!!

Rough man... rough... that pic nearly gave me a heart attack. Glad to see your ok though but I can definitely feel your pain.. Worst comes to worst make sure you hold this young ladies insurance company to task. You just simply can't be made whole after an accident like that.. disabled child or not. Do not let them short change you or your experience this is why you have insurance.

Things will lookup!!

No worries, I was thinking this was a forum was rough. I have 11,000+ post in another forum and I work hard to be nice and fare. I honestly skimmed the thread and missed #7 and #12. I have been reading and searching a ton over the last few days and my eyes are glazed over.

I was driving today and all I could think of was the side impact airbags.

I can relate. My daughter got into an accident last year in January with my car and was hit on the passenger side. It was a hard hit, but the damage was square in the lower center of the door above the rocker panels. The airbag deployed and since the window was down it was shattered inside the door.

The door was not repairable. Fortunately there was no other damage to my baby or my daughter. I cost me $900.00 for a new door (that was already blk and in perfect condition with an intact airbag), $250 for a roadster window (only one in the state of florida at the time) installed and $200 to have the door panel sewed.

I switched the door panels off my daughters XF (I thought that was only fair) and later bought a new pair on Ebay for $124 that were perfect. The dealer wanted $700 for one panel and the parts dealer I got the door from also wanted $700 for one panel. At the same time I bought the gray/blk door panels, I purcased a set of the cedar/red panels for $149 on Ebay. They will be put in my daughters car on Friday.

Believe me when those of us whom have had there XF's damaged in any way bleed for you and feel your pain. It will work out. The best part is that no one was hurt. And even though the young lady driving the other car was in the ozone, hey, we have all been there, just maybe without the consequences.

Angry Accident Update

Well, the good news is: the girl that hit me is owning up totally to her mistake, and admitting fault to all parties involved, so her insurance has accepted full liability.

Now the not so good news: New front bumper, new front fender, new door, new rear fender, and new A-pillar at a minimum. The body shop wasn't sure yet if the A-pillar could be bought separate, or if the entire door surround would have to be replaced *GASP!* Now we're REALLY talking major structural damage. If they have to go in and re-weld the entire side of my unibody back on...

I have a feeling this car is never going to be the same again. Creaking, rattling, and shimmying at high speeds are just a few of the symptoms I can imagine.

I talked with my car salesman, and he said if the damage is severe, they would go all the way up to $8000 off the value, so I'm thinking rewelding on the entire door surround is pretty severe. That means the dash and interior has to come out of the car. God, I think I'm going to lose my mind.

What's wrong with the Front Bumper and Rear Fender? Those both look like that had no contact... I would say that haveing to cut out and replace the rear fender alone is moderate to severe damage. Any $$$ Estimate yet?

get rid of it, that thing is a total loss, it will never be the same after the body shop tears into it, if you want it rebuilt right, have the insurance company send it back to Germany and have Karman re-do it. lol

dump that car quick!

Sorry about that...just Repainting the rear fender, not replacing it. I mis-spoke. The front bumper attachments were apparently torn off as the inner fender well was ripped backwards from the impact.

No estimate on the cost of damages yet because the insurance company now has to dispute all of the repairs, and see if they can get away with not doing any of them.

On the Diminished Value Claim...Is there a right or wrong time to bring that up with the insurance company? My concern is that the repairs plus the diminished value claim will equal the value of the car if totalled, so I would like the insurance company to know that I'm expecting diminished value money before they decide to go forward with repairs or to total the vehicle.

Well, I brought up a diminished value claim on my car, and the allstate claims adjuster said, "generally we dont honor those, but feel free to submit anything you want."

Should I get a lawyer at this point? There is one here in Denver that specializes in diminished value claims. I really dont want to be stuck with a car I can't sell or trade because of an $8000 discrepancy in value.

Its amazing how well the body held up. A lot of times when people see sports cars, particularly the small statured crossfire they think of it was a death trap. Constantly surrounded by trucks and SUVs its nice to know that your driving a Mercedes designed body structure that is rigid and tough. You just don't get that safety with all sports coupes. Imagine if you were in a Miata or an MR2.

I think it would be a good idea to talk with him. See what his fee will be and if that can be reimbursed as past of the claim.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune dude ! It sucks a big one that the insurance company wouldn't total the darn thing out. I agree with Maxwell, get her fixed and get rid of her. If you could find a wholesaler buyin cars for sale in Mexico would be just too cool !
I don't think they'd mind if the windows whistle a lil.

Just my Dos Centavos !

I just do not see this as a totaled XF. I am not a body repair expert by any means and just my opinion, but I have seen what can be done to repair cars next to my office and what you have just looking at the original picture looks mainly like cosmetic repair and in the hands of a competent bodyshop should be no probem putting it back to original. And I don't think you will get a whistle. jmho
