Bad Customer Service
Ok, I'm going to tell my side and I'm sure the other party will tell theirs. I ordered a modified thermostat from TVT and when I take it to get installed the mechanic informs me it doesn't fit the car. He shows me both thermostats side by side and I can see with my own eyes #1 its not the same and #2 it wouldn't fit the car. I call TVT up and tell them about the problem and he says to send it back (mind you I paid for sending the wrong part back). The mechanic who was trying to install it somehow seperated the the theromastat into two pieces, I didn't notice this till I got home (he had just left it in the trunk and finished the install of other parts). The part is not broken but according to TVT "you need a special tool to put it back together." Now my thing is you send me the wrong F'n part and I pay to send it back to you on top of the shop charged me for the install regardless, but then you have the nerve to tell me I have to put it back together and pay for the shipping both ways again, then you'll give me the correct thermostat. Am I crazy here or would the right thing would be to send me the F'n correct part which I paid for and get the tool your F'n self to fix it? You sent the wrong part, and its not broken, just needs a "special tool." Maybe I'm the wrong one, but right now I'm F'n mad so I don't care.
I have the TVT thermostat also but havent gotten around to installing it yet. Hope I have the right one, but I'm not going to pull the current one to do a compare. We have a GTG this Saturday and its supposed to be SUNNY and 75!!!
I think I'll drive to Mt. Hood!

Just to clarify, we agreed that we would pay for the new part and all extra expenses incurred with it. When the part arived it was broken in two pieces where the "mechanics" tried to take it apart. I have no idea why you would take a thermostat apart. I explained to him that I would not be able to refund him the cost of this part because it is now broken. I gave him the option to pay for the new part, take both thermostats to the mechanic, have one installed and the other fixed, send it back, and receive a refund. He said "it's ok just forget about it." We would have covered the 2.17 he paid to ship it. That was never an issue.
But we can not accept a part that was broken for no reason.

I see both sides but, I must side with the customer, 1st you sent him the wrong part and he proceeded to try to install it. You can't see that it's wrong until you remove your own thermostat 1st RIGHT. Therefore send him the right one and eat the wrong one !

And yes it was the "mechanic" you @ss. I know nothing about working on cars and definitely wouldn't try installing that myself. But I'll tell you what I do know, and thats you will never see another red cent of my money.
From my perspective, the order was incorrectly filled. You sent him the wrong part. It appears customer service is no longer high on ANYONES list. I would expect if TVT is a reputeable company they would do the right thing. After all is it worth loosing customers over the cost of a thermostat? JUst send him a new one and be done with it!
hey, did you pay via paypal?you can file a complaint and get a refund if he sent the wrong item.
and i have to agree if this tvt wants our forum business he should send the correct part.thats just lame.kinda like when the autoexclusive con artists ripped me off for like 400.00,some people are just scum.

A refund for the original part was issued. The part was in two pieces that requires a special vice to get it back together, thus broken.
The thermostat we sent has worked on both SC and NA cars. Many of our overseas customers have received the thermostat and have had zero issues with install. Mistakes do happen in companys. We were trying to handle it the best way possible.
We didn't come out on top in this scenario and neither did the customer. We have no money from the transaction and a "broken" part. The customer is without a part. He was having his coolant system flushed to install other items at the time. He may have failed to mention that one of the other parts he had also did not work (different company).
Yes the customer is always right, but the original agreed upon transaction was not met, and thus we could not send out another thermostat free of cost.
If you purchased brake pads from Brakeworld and they sent you the wrong ones (happens a lot, not a knock on them) would you take apart the pad and send them back and expect a refund?

Nice dime drop, but the difference between them and you is they owned up to it and more than made up for it. I'm getting a refund now? Thats news to me. I realize mistakes happen and I didn't get mad even though I ate the the cost for the install and shipping it back till you told me that get it put back together or pay for another one bit.

Maybe it's just me, but I kind of lean towards TVT's side.
He did refund the money (he claims), and has seemed to do what he could to rectify the problem. Just try getting any customer service outta a big company, in their world it's just too bad for you most of the time.
I look at it this way........If I bought a new DVD player to hook up to my TV and it didn't work, I'd immediately put it back in the box and ship it back. I would NOT proceed to take it apart and pull parts out of it, then ship it back in pieces.
I'm sorry to say it BLUEMDsrt6, you're in a bad spot in my eyes. Truthfully, I think the mechanic you had work on the car should eat the cost of the thermostat. Being a former ASE master mechanic, I'd NEVER try to take a thermostat apart to make it work!
Just my 2 cents worth.

The inside of the thermostat was removed. There is no reason to do this for anything at all. The thermostats on these car simply pop off with two screws and pop right back on. There is no need to remove the center piece. You can see where the mechanic had to pry it open with a tool to get it off, because it is not supposed to be removed.

Selling someone a round peg for a square hole, and refusing a return because it was damaged while being forced into a square hole is bad business.
Your customer acted rationally by trying to get the thermostat to work. The details of how the part was damaged are irrelevant.
