sad day
well my check engine light is now constantly on and my transmission seems to be stuck in 3rd gear indefinitely - this seems expensive. Any tips?
id like to get the car computer scanned for codes, do mechanics do this service free?
more importantly, my car has the 8yr 80,000 mile power train Chrysler certified vehicle, but i have to get the paper signed by previous owner and I - if anybody can help me understand this process I wont have a strange feeling in my gut anymore

As far as the warranty, I don't believe it is transferable from one owner to the other if it is a Chrysler manufacturer warranty -- but maybe on this car I'm wrong. I have another Chrysler and the extended powertrain warranty is only good for the original owner -- which really sucks but that's the way it is applied by Chrysler.
I don't expect a dealer will run a diagnostics for free but usually if you go there and pay the fee, they will apply the cost of the diagnostics to any work you need to get done.
I'm no mechanic, but it sounds like it might be the transmission shift solenoid.
Good luck.
If I am not mistaken the warranty is transferrable to the second owner for a fee of $150 - $200. Again if memory serves, the SRT's only have the 3yr./36,000 warranty.
damn...I would be peeved to no end....warranty is sometimes a tricky thing...if it is an extended warranty, it is probably transferable, if it's the factory warranty, it is probably not any good...but, for kicks and giggles, I would say it is an extended warranty, and this guy damn well better sign the paper....and if it is stuck in 3rd gear, this is the first time I have heard of this problem...but, yes, hopefully in the module...wire broken, board cracked...who knows....but the warranty should cover it...I am sure the code it has thrown would be for the transmission problem...any Auto Zone, of similar store would pull the code for free...the dealer will charge you 1 hour labor to do the 5 minute code reader....someone has to pay their light bill...good luck and let us know what the code was...but don't sweat it, it is something fixable...module, wire, whatever...and shouldn't be expensive if the warranty is any good at all...a deductable is all...

I have the 8yr/80000 ml limited powertrain warranty on my vert, which I bought with 50 mls on the clock, and it is issued by a 5 star Chrysler dealer, on a certified used car (which all SRT6's were classed as).
I don't know about whether it can be transferred, but if you call1-800-5219922, they will give you info on the limited warranty.
If you can transfer it, I'm sure it will cover the transmission issue.
If you need any more details PM me

I'm no help with the warranty transfer, but worst case if it doesn't work out, go find a reputable shop that specializes in MB, BMW, etc to take a look at it. A chrysler dealership will just charge you an arm and a leg to replace everything they "think" is wrong with it....without actually fixing it of course.
Good luck....it is probably something fairly simple to fix....these cars are very reliable.

I had something like this on a Hyundai I owned. Electronics in the trans blew, stayed in second gear as a limp home safety thing. Had no other forward gears or reverse. They ended up putting in a new trans at the dealership (not under warranty at the time) but I'll bet a good trans shop could have fixed it for less.

They should do the right thing. It wouldn't surprise me if they knew this was an issue and didn't disclose it. Intermittent issues always screw the consumer.

Not sure how it works in California, but New York is covered under the Lemon Law, and all NY Car Dealers must comply.
With the NY Lemon, you are covered bumper-to-bumper for ninety (90) days, irrespective of any additional warranties bought or implied.
I would suspect that California would have something similiar, or one would think...

The car came with a 8yr / 80,000 mile power train warranty though the certified pre-owned Chrysler plan that was purchased from the previous owner prior to me buying it from the dealer.
I called Chrysler and they informed me that i had to get the contracted signed by the previous owner of this car.
after doing a diagnosis through OBDII - the check engine light code came out to be transmission turbine, my mechanic suggested the electronics is broken, and not really hardware related - any insight on this?

Like Boiler said, it can be transferred to the 2nd owner as i did this. It was a cost of $100 at the local dealership to do it and it did not involve the previous owner. I would try to go back to the dealership to assist. Good luck getting this fixed.
