Default spoiler problems

Newly acquired 05 convt. the spoiler works manually, but the speed activation doesn't. It did when test driven, but on return from dealer(6 hrs) noticed it didn't retract, or deploy??

Hey another Crossfire from our nation's capital. Congrats on the new car.
I believe that the issue may be related to the battery. Have a look to see the colour of the battery. If it's white it is the original and when they go they cause funny stuff to happen to electronics, engine and noteably the spoiler. My car does not have the pop-up spoiler so I'm no expert but others will likely tell you what the issue could be.
Good luck and enjoy that car.

When I would crank the car, the spoiler would deploy and retract. Turned out to be a weak battery. Replaced battery and solved the problem. Recently, the spoiler would deploy and retract and then redeploy. Took it to the dealer for diagnosis. The sensor on the spoiler motor had failed. It seems you cannot buy a new sensor but must replace the motor. Had that done last week and spent a whopping $440.00, parts & labor.

handyman, the other thing you might try is make sure you have taken it out of manual control. Try raising the wing manually all the way and then lower it all the way and hold the button until it 'dings'. That means it has retracted completely and should be in auto control again..... couldn't hurt..

The part number is: 5161797. This is a Chrysler part number. Mercedes has no vehicles with a retractable spoiler. Hope this is helpful.

Except for the new SLS... $5 says it uses similar framework as the Webasto unit we have...

And CERTAINLY so if you had been playing with the button (or the kids were, or the wife was, etc.)

After the first four hours it stayed up, I simply accepted it as a new identifying trait

after 4 hours I think you're suppose to call your doctor... I'm not sure, maybe you should ask Steve. He's old enough to require that product

I doubt Steve would call a doctor, he'd phone a lady-friend and grab a handycam.

Question Re: spoiler problems

When I bought my XF new, I thought the spoiler button operation would 'ding' after full deployment or retraction. Now it does not 'ding' any more. Is there a problem with this? I thought if you manually extended or retracted it, when you cycled the ignition (park then drive later) it would be reset. Strange, it works fine, but the 'ding' doesn't 'ding' any more.

Any guidance/help on this issue?

I don't remember it ever dinging when I had a limited.

Yea, it beeps once when it's all the way extended or retracted. Not sure what would make it quit beeping.

Thumbs down Re: spoiler problems

OK, page 106/107 in the owners manual says the 'ding' should be there when manually raising or lowering the spoiler. Once deployment speed is reached though, it automatically deploys open no matter what. Guess I'll have to take her in to have it looked at, don't need a problem like this run past the 3/36 warranty...
