Default Electrical Problem

Help! I don't know if I'm posting in the right place. I'm new to this so please correct me if I'm screwing up. I thought I'd take the Crossfire out for a ride because it was a nice day to put the top down. First of all, I couldn't unlock the car with the fob. Everything was dead. Opened the door with the key and no power anywhere. Thought my new battery was acting up. Couldn't get a reading on the voltmeter so I got my jumper pack hooked up and the alarm started going off and scared the crap out of me. Disconnected it and alarm silenced. put a charger on and it would not work until I disconnected the ground. Battery is fully charged, but still is not allowing any power to the car. I'm totally lost and would appreciate any help and or advice that anyone can provide. Thanks, Rich

[QUOTE=plugs1;981175] put a charger on and it would not work until I disconnected the ground. ./QUOTE]
What does that mean? What ground? What do you mean "would not work"? Does not sound like the the charger charged at all to me.

How you you know the battery is "fully charged"? What is the terminal voltage?

"Couldn't get a reading on the voltmeter" This makes no sense, especially when read with "Battery is fully charged"
Start by disconnecting both positive and negative cables from the battery, and clean everything really well.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery to the car. At the fender disconnect and clean before reconnecting. Check the continuity of that cable with your ohm meter. After reconnecting everything see if the headlights will go on. If not, using your hands bend and twist the battery cables to see if you can get any electricity to the headlights. If cable is corroded badly you should get at least something after bending.
Just forward of the battery is a small square black plastic box. open the lid and test the three fuses you will find in that box.

Zip, there is simply no way to make sense of what he's saying:

Battery dead, put charger on, brought car to life security system was not alive when he opened the door, so it did it's job and alarmed.

Disconnected it and alarm silenced.
Makes sense, see above.

put a charger on and it would not work until I disconnected the ground.
No idea what he is saying. This contradicts what he said above.

Battery is fully charged,
I assume he used a voltmeter to verify this but who knows?

but still is not allowing any power to the car.
Again, not clear what he means. WHAT is not allowing power to the car? If the battery is charged and things are still dead, he could have blown the 200 amp fuse buy HOW?

People post here like we are standing over their shoulder watching them. I wish they'd be CLEAR, concise and use paragraphs instead of post like they are sending a text to their kid. Such a waste of time for a simple problem.

I've given up trying to answer incomplete questions. My other beef is no one , well hardly anyone, ever comes back to let anyone know what helped, if anything. That is how a lot of us used to learn, from others feedback.

I'll try to explain again. The charger would not work until I disconnected the ground on the battery. Volt meter reads 12.47 for charge. After messing around with the cables, which are like new and the battery is a year old, I got my wife to turn on the ignition while the alarm was sounding. Lights came on in the dash and interior light turned on also. Alarm stopped so I had her leave the ignition on and I tried to start the car. No luck and no cranking. BTW I had the RCM rebuilt last year and it's been working perfectly.

And you answered none of my questions. You are wasting my time.

I'll let the others take it from here, life is too short and I'm not getting paid for this.

Really sorry that my explanation seems to be wasting your time. AS to the other comment about not getting back about a solution, my one year old battery was trashed. Replaced it under warranty and everything is back to normal. I should remember to KISS. Keep it simple stupid. Thanks for all your help and comments.

plugs1 ~~ So your battery was dead and the car wouldn't start and now it seems it won't crank the engine.
1. DID you clean the cable leads as in post #3 ?
2. I would suspect you have a bad battery. You may be able to take it to an auto parts store and see if they can test it.
3. Why did the battery die? Check this video out. It will explain how to find a battery drain Find Battery Drain

IF you get through all that and the car still will not crank come back here and we can proceed.

Oh well, I see you posted as I was writing a reply. Happy you got your car running. Enjoy the ride!
Hope you didn't buy the same brand battery!! Odyssey is a brand I would recommend.

Sounded like a bad cell in the battery. I had one replaced under warranty awhile back on one of my vehicles. I've got a battery tester so it was easy for me to see that the battery was no good. First time I ever used the replacement warranty. Interesting thing about that replacement warranty. Found it only applies to the original purchased car battery. The replacement battery doesn't come with a warranty because it wasn't purchased! Original & replacement batteries were sourced from O'Reilly Auto Parts.

MY APOLOGIES! I have been in the ER three times this week with a LOT of drugs and Im still in a lot of pain. The questions I asked are in another thread by another member, not you.

SO strike that response - I did not ask YOU three questions.

VERY SORRY FOR THAT ONE!

For others reading this thread - pay attention to what he said: His new battery (one year old is NEW to most of us) was crap. This happens more and more, and has happened to me.
DO NOT skip over something just cause it's new. If all indications point to it, then consider that the "new" part is the issue.

I mean, we all know how many new Crank Sensors are crap, dont we?

I'm glad to hear that it was only a bad battery. It could have been a hell of a lot more expensive!
Good luck!

I guess I was luckier than you. Mine came from Auto Zone and was replaced with the new warranty in place. Maybe it was because I bought it on a commercial account, but I'm not going to question why. I just hope this battery lasts longer than the last one.

Zeracer, Totally agree with your comments. Unfortunately it has become part of our culture today, namely no respect or consideration for others. Just take and run.
