Sticky Ignition Key Fix for all Crossfires 2004 thru 2006
I have not done this fix yet, But as I understand once you get through the housing where you are drilling the pin will come out through the same hole where you are drilling. Not all the way throw ,but out the same path as the drill bit.
Sorry I can't help more.

Drilling the pin does not unlock the tumbler. Drilling the pin will allow u to remove the whole assemnly. Kinda turn and pull the assembly out. Then there is a small hatch/cover that u open to remove a different pin and spring to free the tumbler.

As I remember the pin comes out, but read it again or wait a little while until someone can get on that has done the fix and can tell you for sure.
Thank you so much!! i have the assembly out and will punch out the spring and pin. The pin i drilled earlier did end up falling out of the casing as i was removing the assembly. I believe i did not have to drill as much as i did and it's too sad that this will never happen again as to give me another chance to perfect this mod.
hi dsdisign! hi you all!
I have same problem!! my car is out the street in front of my wifes mother drive thru!!!! can you beleive that!.
so, since there is no one else exept mb dealer,a few locksmith that only do houses and key copys Im thinking doing it my self, so I have a few questions if someone can help.
As I understand it works, right? the only diference is that steering wont lock when car is off and park, right? I dont se big deal since it is hard anyway to turn when off.

Yes it works - I did mine in August 2009 and it still has no issues AND the steering still locks.
Just read rekcah's tutorial and you should be able to do yourself.
good luck and welcome to the forum, Ron

I did mine a few months ago and it now works better than new...its not as hard to do as it looks. Took me two hours. If the ket wont turn at all, you have to drill the pin on the steering column to get the assembly out, it takes fifteen minutes or so...i used a dremel. Once you drill that pin, the arm and assembly will slide to the right and pull out at an angle...this was the only step that was not clear to me in the tutorial...good luck.

I sincerely hope someone can help me.
I had been having the sticky ignition issue for a while now but I made the mistake of totally ignoring it. Today, after 2 hours and a BROKEN key --- I still couldn't get the car to start so I decided to follow the instructions here.
I got all the way to step 10 where it tells you to skip to the "KEY WON'T TURN" section and in that section it is telling me to drill out the locking pin. I am totally confused because I don't see the locking pin. It seems like the trim from the steering wheel is covering where the locking pin would be so I am not quite sure how to get to it.
Also, for those of you who have fixed this issue; are you laying on your back inside of the car while working on it or are you sitting in the drivers seat. It seems impossible to lay on my back because the lower dash is sort of just hanging there.
Please help me. I am in Los Angeles. No car. And certainly can't afford to go shell out 800 dollars to get this fixed.

the trim piece on the steering column actually slides toward you to reveal the pin. it is spring loaded if I remember and you just need to hook it and pull back towards the steering wheel. Hope that helps. Ron

I never did understand what the drilling was all about
-- maybe I was lucky. It has been over a year, no problems since I did the mod on it.

So I had to do no drilling, just pressed in on the pin near the column and rocked the assembly out of there and fixed it on the bench.

Lucky you. I can't get my key to turn more than a half inch. It sucks because it seems like im drilling aimlessley. I don't understand though how you are able to pull the spring loaded trim piece back that is coving the pin; press the pin and ROCK the assembly out all at the same time. It feels like i need 4 arms. My pin sort of presses in a bit, so I was trying to bypass the drilling but I just cent seem to press it AND rock the assembly all at the same time.

Others can correct me if I am wrong, but I am sure that is how it looks in the pictures - you have to read the steps you skip over, so you know what to do!
Notice how, in the picture under "Key Won't Turn", the bold is loose as is the collar!!!

There is a bolt you have to loosen and you slide the collar it keeps tight (the bolt keeps tight) and under that collar is, I THINK, where the pin is. Hard for me to remember, since it's been over a year, but if you remove that collar, you will see the pin.

I pressed the pin in with a small center punch, and twisted and pulled the assembly, and out it came!
Supposedly, you can only do this IF your key is turned to the right one click.
Otherwise, you need to drill the pin out... but I can't speak to this, as mine decided to turn after I got the car towed home and the dash torn apart.
