Killed a Supra
Seems like there is an apples vs. oranges comparison going on here. I have had both platforms and would prefer one over the other depending on my needs. I don’t do much of the drag racing but have been doing road racing and high performance driving on tracks in the NW since 1993 and since about 1997 have been an instructor as well as racer. For a road course I would pick the XFire SRT-6, you don’t see many Supras on the road courses (XFire are rare due to the low production numbers, AMG and SRT platform is an enabler here) . If I were building a drag car or a drifting platform I would have to go that way. More options, less expensive, the platforms are very dependable and you don’t have that pesky computer taking over….I would also be interested to see the average age of the two groups….
Just my .02….Cheers, Ty (2005 SRT6)

Having read all of the Supra thread, seems like there is a lot of misunderstanding about the SRT-6s. Here is some good information if one of you Supra guys wants to post it on your forum:
The SRT-6s were in the 50-54K range sticker price. Very few sold near sticker price.
The SRT-6s were limited to 2005 production year (about a dozen have been reported being released as 2006s). There were 2064 coupes and 928 roadsters built for world wide distribution. SRTs were distributed to Germany, England, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
The SRT was built on the SLK32 AMG platform, and has a 3.2 SC'd hand build AMG engine. It has 349 HP stock.
The body was manufactured and assembled by Karmann.
The SRT was completely built and assembled in Germany with German parts, and shipped to the United States.
Stock: 0-60 @4.8 sec., 1/4 13.06 sec.
Low mileage SRTs can be purchased for between 13 and 20k. Roadsters demand the highest dollars.
The SRT is the best bang for the buck sleeper on the road. Hard to beat the HP/dollar, and is built on a tested and proven SLK platform.
Hope this helps, and possibly opens a few eyes to a truly remarkable car that is an absolute blast to drive.

Great post BMorgan....you could toss in stock vs stock. As the SRT has about 10% more HP and 5-10 less curb wght then the twin turbo american market MK4 if I recall correctly
ok, back on the side....
Cheers,
Ty

Supra has wayyy more aftermarket support, and the 2jz is bulletproof. I've seen stock internals withstand 1100rwhp and that was the limit because the rod bolts broke.
I love the Supra, always have. Unfortunately never owned one. Truth of the matter is the Crossfire is an abomination in the eyes of many (especially Clarkson). What drew me to it was the cheap price of entry (under 20k with only 12,000 miles), and touching the 11's essentially with 3 mods: Pulley, Intake, & Tune.
The Supra cannot compare in regards to sheer bang for buck value- at least if you're looking to ONLY get into the high 11's- beyond that has proven for all to be quite difficult. Supras, on the other hand, are the quintessential KINGS of the import world and the sky is the limit when modding them- barring you have deep pockets.
That said I think people are disrespectful on both forums- however that's to be expected with groups of "enthusiasts".

Yeah, I like Supras too ... used to be a member of supraforums. Back about 1999 I had to decide between a twin turbo Stealth and the twin turbo Supra, and picked the Stealth because of the AWD. What a mistake that was, lol. It broke down constantly, not to mention the Supra's market value took off shortly thereafter.
Anyway, the Stealths are a LOT faster than they were just a few years back. They had Jack Tertadian (sp?) who ran a 10.81 or so that was the only one in the 10s forever, but now I saw they have Matt Monett in the 8's at 166+ mph. That could be us in a few years, since we are about where the RT/TT was back then
... but it'll probably take some big turbo conversion kits.

That being said, I decided to do a little research and this is what I came up with.
Toyota Supra Turbo Road Test results.
0to60 mph. 5.0sec. 1/4 mile 13.5sec. slalom 66.0 mph. R&T 3/93
0to60 mph. 5.3sec. 1/4 mile 13.7sec. 105.0 mph. R&T 2/94
0to60 mph. 5.4sec. 1/4 mile 13.5sec. 106.6 mph. M T 3/93
0to60 mph. 4.9sec. 1/4 mile 13.4sec. 106.7 mph M T 7/93
0to60 mph. ______ 1/4 mile 13.8sec. 106.0 mph. C&D 9/03
0to60 mph. 4.6sec. 1/4 mile 13.1sec. 109.0 mph. C&D 3/93
Crossfire SRT6 Road Test results in Sport & GT magazine 1995.
0to60 mph. 4.8sec. 1/4 mile 13.3sec. 107.5 mph. slalom 67.6 mph.
I wish I could find some more magazine road tests for the SRT6 for comparison. But with 11 different magazines articles to choose from, all but one was on the NA Crossfire.
It looks to me that when the two cars are lined up side by side, it boils down to a drivers race, at the drags and on a road course. But it should be pointed out that the Supra attained its #'s riding on 235/45 & 255/40-17" tires respectively.
But even though the Crossfire has bigger tires, it's 3.07 gears are a little taller than the Supras 3.27's.
Sounds like the two cars are pretty evenly matched to me. But then what do I know, I'm just an "old f__t" to the tuner boyz.
i thought the 90's twin turbo supra was/is an awesome car. i'd love to have one. same with the twin rx-7. however, finding an original, ultra low mileage example of either is an expensive proposition.
For the record i rate Supras i think they are hot with a few aftermarket parts, they have a world of aftermarket parts we can only dream of and the sky is the limit for power and looks. I have considered buying one a couple times, in stock form they look dated and plain but with something as simple as trd skirts which came with the later models in 95 i think, a nice front lip and a set of rims they look tough. A well done up one stil turns my head. MVP Motorsport have a nice selection of parts for these cars.. Ive raced three BPU supras and it wasnt even close.. One of which confirmed he has 310whp again it wasnt even close. Perhaps they were bad manual drivers.. Either way I lost interest thinking u would have to invest big to get the power id be after for the street, instant power. Maybe and probably im miss informed although id stil like an explanation as to why so many BPU supras are slower than 12.7..

Speaking of Supras , I will be the first to say I know jack nothing about the cars , but I do like how they look and always have ,that being said there are some guy's here in Kingsport Tn. that have a shop called (THE SHOP) they have a couple of supras that race in Bristol and other places i would guess , they do a lot of modding on these cars and are Ranked as the best in the country at what they do , and I would sure as hell hate to run up on one of their motors , Super fast,, ,,,,,,I'm just saying .
Bob let me know if you ever decied to make the trip to Bristol I'll meet you over there ....
Great track.

I believe this to be 100% truth. One of my closest friends has a MKIV Supra with stock turbos converted to non-sequencial, Motek Engine management, and all the tricks I can't think of(no interest in the cars). It makes a documented 427 WHP and I can pull him everytime... Not multiple car lengths, but a win is a win...
