Checked the oil. It's all the way at the end of the red. According to book it should be in between. I think you guys are correct...to much oil.
You suggest an oil extractor....what is that?? Would I be better off taking it to a local mechanic and ask him to drain out some oil?? How much should be drained out?
Thank you.
Yea, but you didn't answer the other question !
An oil extractor is a device you can buy that uses vacuum to suck the oil out through the dipstick tube during oil changes. Also called a "topsider", they first came on the scene for inboard engine boats.
Many on the forum swear by them, I too will get one when my ship comes in.
Last time my ship came in, I was waiting out at the airport .
Thank you one hundred80 and ala_xfire. I will take my car to my general mechanic 10 miles away and ask him to drain some oil down to the proper line.
Ala...you made me laugh out loud when your ship came in and you were at the airport.
Thanks again,
Sandy
How my car key fobs were finally fixed....
One Chrysler Dealership could not fix my car after having it two weeks. TWO Chrysler Dealerships REFUSED to even look at my car. Onward to a Chrysler Dealership 50 mins south.
They found....Central locking pump leaking internally. Recommend replace it. They put in a new Actuator - power door lock.
They said...Noticed fuel door air chamber just laying on side of vehicle and cracked. Air escaping through chamber. Locks will still work if air supply to chamber is blocked and fuel door will have to be opened manually. Removed and replaced central locking pump. All locks lock and unlock with key fobs. The end.
I questioned the the 'cracked chamber' with the service rep. He told me I will have to manually open my gas door. Well because I always did manually open my gas door I thought nothing more of this. (I would push in the bottom left corner and the gas door would open.)
Question to you guys....my gas door is now not flush with my car. I am in phone calls with this company. TERRIBLE, terrible customer service, terrible reps that take your info for service. They never answer and they NEVER call you back.
When they took my whole trunk apart to get at that part did they come in contact with my 'fuel door air chamber'?? I DO believe it's their fault my door is not flush now. I need a little more guidance before I accuse them of anything.
Is this an easy fix??
And....I had three keys. Two came with the car and I ordered an additional one from Wings... Chrysler was only to get two fully working key fogs. My original key that I always use to drive the car with will not start the car but will lock and unlock the doors. I asked the service rep about it, he asked the tech and was told I can only have two working keys. I don't believe him but I'm over it. I give up. I now have just two keys again.
Thanks everyone for your help.

There have been two reasons why the door did not fit flush;
1, The tether that keeps the cap attached to the car gets in the way, spin the tether around so it does not interfere with the body work.
Or.
2, The pin that locks the fuel door shut is in the closed position, If it has not moved when you unlock the car as it should you may will a problem because of it.
The system will work with up to eight keys.
Pushing the fuel door anywhere on the left hand edge or side will release the spring catch and push the door open.
The fuel door only locks when you use the fob or key to lock the car after exiting the vehicle, the door lock button inside the car does not lock the fuel door.
The fuel door does not lock when the doors and hatch lock automatically after you start to drive.
Contact by the service guy is unlikely as the actuator cannot be seen easily. If the actuator is the problem they may have taken off the hose with the pin in the locked position and left it off. The pin is not normally visible with the fuel door open, it passes through that U shaped bracket which the tab on the inside of the fuel door should enter when you close the fuel door. Stand by the fuel door and lock and unlock the doors using the fob, see if you can here any noise of the actuator at that fuel door. If you can see the pin in the bracket that is the problem.
I think that possibly the mechanic removed you keys secret code number from the vehicles memory by accident when adding the new key, once removed that keys code number cannot be added to the cars memory. I think that is what I read in the Service Manual the other day.
I shudder to think what the door locking pump cost you.

When unlocking the car I heard the 'actuator at the fuel door' but I could not see anything move. There is a black button on the inside (gas area) that looks like a push button spring. I pushed on it and it popped out. I redid the lock and unlock. The spring button did not move. I gently pulled on it and the whole thing came out. It's NOT attached to anything. ughhhhhhhhhhhhh do you think they did this?? Is it an easy fix?? I did not hear any sound locking the car, only unlocking.
They put an ACTUATOR - Power door lock in my car. Is that the same thing?? Of course I'm confused again.
The Actuator cost 909. They also did 'electrical system repairs' 625. This was an expensive adventure BUT on the bright side I can now fully lock my car. :/

That button you pulled out just pushes the fuel door open enough for you to grab it and open it fully.I guess you could just push it back in. Can you shut the fuel door now, did you fix it?
not fixed. It closes but is NOT flush with the car. When I lock the car with the key fob I can still open the gas door. Nothing makes it stay locked or flush with the car.

OK, one step at a time.
Open the fuel door and look at that bracket on the left hand side of the opening.
When you lock or unlock the doors using the fob do you see a pin entering the holes in the side of the bracket? You should see some movement.
This pin is what locks the cap when the door is closed, the pin goes into the hole in the tab on the inside of the gas cap door.
well, I think I misheard earlier. I think what I thought was the gas door area was really the passenger door that I was hearing.
I looked for this 'pin'...when opening the gas door on the left side I see two things...on the bottom left side I see the spring button I mentioned earlier. This spring is not connected to anything and does not work properly. I can push it in and out with my finger but when I open a closed gas door the spring does not pop open/out. The other thing I saw is this two half circle thing. This is on the left side towards the top. It's like a circle tube cut in half. Each half has a hole and there is NOTHING in this hole. There is nothing in either hole. When I lock and unlock nothing happens at all. No pin appears, there is NO noise and the spring does not move. I'm thinking I should be seeing the PIN in this top item on the left side in the gas area.
Since the "actuator" is in my trunk under the carpet I'm guessing they did not fix/replace the 'panel' that is on the right side in the trunk well?? I'm thinking that is called the PS something. This is what I thought was my problem all along.
Since my 'actuator' is already repaired that should not be an expense to me. I still say they broke my gas door. They never called me back yesterday or today. Tomorrow (Thursday) I was planning on driving back down there. I just don't know what to argue/debate with them.
I know I'm clueless. I tried to google...where is the actuator power door is located. It showed me the inside of car door.
Chrysler mentioned the "fuel door air chamber just laying on side of vehicle and cracked. Air escaping through chamber. Locks will still work if air supply to chamber is blocked and fuel door will have to be opened manually. Removed and replaced central locking pump". Does the AIR CHAMBER open and close my gas door?? This is what they SAY they found laying on the side of the vehicle cracked. I don't believe it magically just fell off.
Nothing goes into the gas cap DOOR. The only thing on the actual door is the wire that hold the gas cap on so it does not fall onto the floor when filling with gas.
I APPRECIATE any advice you can give me.
Thank you,
Sandy

I am sorry but I do not seem to be getting through to you.
Underneath the trunk carpet is the trunk well.
With the fuel door closed and you push down on it, that spring button is compressed and extends outward, pushing the fuel door open.
You never said if the ajar or closed flush. Everyone has to open the fuel door manually, you push it in a little and that spring button opens it enough to get your finger tip under and pull the door open.
I think someone else should take over from me. Sorry.

My gas door is ajar. It is not flush anymore.
I understand where the trunk well is. I understand that the 'actuator' is in the trunk well.
When I close my fuel door the spring is compressed, when I press on my fuel door to OPEN it my spring is still compressed. I think the spring is broken.
My fuel door does not properly close anymore. No matter what position the spring is in the door will open. A two year old could open it with it's fingers. You do not have to push it to open it anymore.
I appreciate your help. I'm sorry if I'm not understanding correctly.
thank you,
Sandy

If the locking pin is not to be seen then it is possible that the tether attached to the cap is in the way of the door and stops it from being flush.
I cannot see why they never fixed the fuel door problem.
Still not letting me upload.. but will chime in.. my tether actually lays under the hinge when closing.. so you do have clearance under there for it.. there is a slot on the car side.. and "arm" on the door that align when closing.. if yours is broke and scewed.. or if something is back up inside the hinge area.. looks like the only reasons it shouldn't close.. short of the hinge being messed up.

Your pics are in the General Gallery, I have added some existing pics of that area. Ignore the notes about the leak.
See where it says handle the air line and connector with extreme care, maybe someone did not act very carefully.
OneHundred80 (glad you did not give up on me) and Mrmiata,
I drove down to the dealership today because they were not returning my calls. I needed a little bit of knowledge from you guys so I could bluff my way with the service rep. I am happy to report that Chrysler is ordering me a new gas door lock (third picture above). Chrysler broke mine while installing the Actuator in the trunk well. They are paying for the part and for the labor.
I was confused with the Actuator because all along I thought I needed a PS Relay...that socket board that sits on the side in the trunk well. I tried to google Actuator and it was showing me pictures in a car door.
I searched this forum last night and found the picture of the inside of the gas door with the pencil. I compared it to mine. Looks the same but does not act the same because Chrysler broke my pin, air hose and lock. I told them when they took my old Actuator out they most likely pulled the hose and it snapped off the fuel door air chamber. He went to the mechanic and came back and told me they will take care of it. It will take 10--14 days for the part to come in.
Service Rep told me he would fix the 'code' for my oil can HI message. I told him not necessary that his mechanic put to much oil in my car and that is why the light came on. He asked me how much extra oil. I told him 1/2 quart. I have you guys to thank for telling me it was to much oil.
Thank you very much for being patient with me, for attaching pictures and most of all for helping me. I read everything you guys say and print some things out.
thank you,
Sandy
