Chrysler to Replace '05 Convertible Tops Under TSB - YAHOO!!
Wow, if someone actually knew why they warranty some and not others.
I spoke to a Svc Mgr in the Tampa area the other day who said the criteria was where the car was built
not where it was delivered. specifically which plant in Germany. I also had someone at Chrysler tell me it could be as simple as the morning crew used bad glue, they figured it out and by the afternoon the problem was solved so only vins on cars in the am shift would be covered. When will they get it!
Same make, Same model, Same year, Same Problem SAME WARRANTY!!
My 05' has lived in FL all of its life. except the 2.5 yrs it sat on a lot in NJ waiting to be auctioned off and sold as new in FL. So I dont buy the southern state thing. Ive got a case mgr now and I can be pretty persistent (to put it nicely) so lets see what happens

Sorry to hear this. Did you receive the letter from Chrysler that they would replace your roof?

Had my top replaced 2 weeks ago by Chrysler at my local dealership. They were aware of he recall and I had no problems. All I had to do was to go to the dealership and let them look at the window. If it was coming out it qualified for replacememt under the extended warranty.
Been about three weeks since I took my letter into the dealer.
Still waiting for word. Checked today and the "guy" is on vacation till next week.
Still waiting for word. Checked today and the "guy" is on vacation till next week.
Had my XF at the dealer today and he ordered new top. Covered by waranty. He said there were not any tops in Atlanta and it might take some time to get. Any one have any idea if Chrysler has them ready to ship
Well, my repairs of the top with Rhino Glue while looking good did not last and I have some separation.
Seeing this TSB I thought I may be covered.... I am not and was told it was VIN specific.
VIN 5X057167
Anyone worked out any pattern to what is covered and what is not?
Would like to know the root cause engineering analysis as to how they know that this defect is limited to some VINS and how those that fail outside this period are not covered. It would seem that the expectation is set that it SHOULD last 10 years, 100,000 miles, if it IS a specific VIN, then why would other VINs not lasting that long be NOT covered?

I don't know, my Vin # is 1C3AN65L35X047702. After looking at some of the other threads whos cars were covered. It's not only the numbers after the "X", but the number that's after 1C3AN (65). I need to find out what that number means because I get the feeling that is why mine in not falling under the warranty. If anyone else can shed some light, please do so.
To answer the previous post, I did not get a letter from Chrysler but an email from another Crossfire owner giving me the heads up because he saw my complaint registered at another website, otherwise, I would never have known about this problem. My car is a 2005 that has been in Florida since 2007 and has 39,000 miles on it. The glass was separating from the top and was a hazard to drive let alone the integrity of the vehicle overall was compromised. The car has always been garaged and the canvas itself looked brand spankin' new!! This was defect with the top and ALL affected vehicles should be included, not just the vehicles Chrysler is designating with no rhyme or reason whatsover. It sucks!!!
I recently contacted both my congressman and Senator about the safety aspect and the complaints filed with the NTSB. After only 7 days, I received not only a reply from Sen. Shelby but a copy of his letter to David Strickland, Administrator of the NTSB directing (not requesting) a timely reply, directly from Mr. Strickland in reference to my concerns on behalf of the Crossfire Roadster owners being excluded from the partial recall.
On the day after, I received a phone call from Senator Shelby, personally asking if I had received the letters and to tell me to contact his office if I don't hear from him within 21 days.
It has been 14 days. I'll definitely keep up on this.
Nice fella'. I hope this goes somewhere...

Just took my Crossfire to the dealer last week to see about getting the new top. I had repaired it with the window weld fix and it was still holding fine, but to me it didn't look that great.
Originally they told me that it would take around 8 weeks for my new top to arrive...they said that they were only allowed to order 1 top a week per Chrysler, as they are trying to spread out all the available tops to Southern dealers.
Well to my surprise, they called me only a few days later and told me my top was in. I dropped it off Wednesday and got it back on Thursday. They did a great job and I was very pleased with their work.
Just wanted to let any other owners around Fort Myers, Florida know that Galeana Chrysler on RT. 41 did a great job. If anyone else in the area is wondering where to take their car, I can reccomend them 100%

They still did not answer why some vehicles get a 10 year warranty and others much less.

1. They expect them to last 10 years, 100,000 miles and know that some vehicles are compromised and are fixing them.
2. Others that fail before that time in other vehicles are not covered.
The two points are are conflict, they have an expected life but some that fail are not covered.
Do the the states Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri, Tennessee,
Georgia, North Carolina Texas have different legal laws and systems that would make them more liable than others in these "United States".

It mystifys one to know how they know that the roof manufacturing defect was tied to vehicles only in those states.

In response to gab1sco, the chart that Dave kindly supplied was for the coupes. the 7th digit that would be most important in this discussion would be a "5" which designates body style "2 door convertible" I couldn't find a chart but had it in my notes.

This is the response that I received yesterday, Saturday 10/22/11
Thank you for contacting the Chrysler Customer Assistance Center with
your email response.
We understand your frustration in having to pay to have repairs done the
back glass on your vehicle.
However, the Warranty Extension (X31) applies only to 2005 Chrysler
Crossfire Roadster Convertibles shipped to dealers in the following
states: Alabama, Louisiana, South Carolina, Florida, Missouri,
Tennessee,Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas.
According to our records, your vehicle was shipped to the State of
Pennsylvania, therefore, it was not included in the Extended Warranty.
Any future communication related to this issue will be retained in
corporate records.
We're sorry we could not further assist you with your request.
Thanks again for your email.

This is total BS!! First they tell me that my car isn't covered because it was manufactured in December of 2004 and now because it was shipped to Pennsylvania. Why should it matter where it was shipped, it's been a Florida car for the last 5 years. I am not going to let up on this because ALL Chrysler owners should be covered, no matter where it originated from. Total CRAP!!
According to the "official" letter from chrysler that ive seen here, hallaluyah! I should be covered. My 05' was purchased NEW in Tampa in 07' yet im still not on the list. I guess because it sat in Jersey for couple of years before they passed it off as "New" it wasnt "shipped to Florida". I still dont have a letter yet, and the svc mgr is still working on it. I guess there is still hope

All any of us can do that have been denied is to stay vigilant. My '05 was shipped to Pennsylvania in '05, but has been registered in the state of Florida since December 2006. It's a Florida car that has been adversely affected by the climate of the designated "Southern States" that are being included in this warranty extension. Good luck to us all!
Hi everyone. I am an owner of a 2006 crossfire convertable having the same problem as the 2005s with the rear glass falling off from the top and causing a safety issue. If you have a 2006 with the same issue please contact me as i am fighting chrysler to include 2006's with the 2005 recalls and starting a class action lawsuit. please contact me at jmayarch1@aol.com or message me with the forum so i can compile a list of owner with the same issue to show my attorney and start a class action.
Thank you
Thank you
Guy came back from vacation and my new top is on order. Will have to take a trip to Tucson for the install once the top arrives.
Sweeeeeeet!
Sweeeeeeet!
I can't imagine that Chrysler thinks it can get away with limiting the warranty to point of delivery. So what may they be thinking?
Could it be cost. Account for the high exposure states this year and the other states in 2012? A limited top availability?
With forums like this a manufacture can't get away with much of anything so I'm thinking we seen an expansion of the TSB in January or a Class Action before March.
I saw the first post of an '06 failure. Could this indicate that the all years are exposed? Are the replacement tops going to be any better than the original?
